  • Derelict building alight in Gravesend
    Incident
    UPDATE: A large quantity of rubbish was destroyed in the blaze, the cause of which is being investigated by police. Crews are tackling a blaze in a derelict building, measuring 100 metres by 30 metres and containing approximately 20 tonnes of wood. Firefighters are using three jets and a positive pressure ventilation fan to clear smoke. No-one has been hurt and the cause is not yet known.

  • Serious rtc in Gillingham
    Incident
    One man and one woman suffered multiple injuries after a road traffic collision involving three cars which led to one car on its roof. Firefighters used hydraulic cutting equipment to free the casualties.

    A road traffic collision between a lorry and a 4x4 vehicle led to a long job for firefighters after the car ended up in a difficult position in a hedge. One male casualty was trapped but crews used cutting gear and he was removed to hospital suffering multiple injuries.

    Incident
    A house fire which led to two casualties has been investigated but the cause is unknown. A fire broke out in a bedroom on the first floor and crews wore breathing apparatus to tackle the blaze. Two male casualties were treated for smoke inhalation and it is believed one of the men suffered suspected leg injuries after jumping from a window.

    UPDATE at 14:44 Firefighters have extinguished the blaze. The contents of the two units have been destroyed by fire. The cause of the fire is being investigated. UPDATE at 13:15 Fire crews are tackling a fire in two units of a mechanics workshop, using breathing apparatus, a hose reel and a jet. There are no reported casualties. The cause of the fire is not yet known. Fire crews have been sent to deal with a car alight in a workshop.

    Nicholas Cott, from Eastry near Sandwich, was last seen by his family at 8.30am on Friday but he did not pick his son up from school in the afternoon and his disappearance is described as out of character.
    He is described as 5ft 8ins, slightly built, with brown hair and was wearing a blue shirt, jeans and blue boating-type shoes when he was last seen.
    It is believed that Mr Cott may be driving a blue Renault Scenic car, registration DS06 PSX.

  • This is Kent: Beer to flow for extra day at Crabble Corn Mill ale festival

    BEER-LOVERS will be able to tease their taste buds for an extra day at the Crabble Corn Mill festival this year.

    Organisers will stage the annual fundraising event for three days instead of the usual two as part of the Queen's Diamond Jubilee festivities.

    The eighth Crabble beer festival will run from Friday, June 1, to Sunday, June 3.

    This year will feature 54 Kentish real ales and ciders in a bid to raise cash for the historic mill, which is run entirely by volunteers.

  • This is Kent: Help needed to build Dover charity's fort garden

    A DOVER charity is calling for volunteers to help it with a garden makeover.

    St Martin's Emmaus homeless project, based at the historic Archcliffe Fort, is creating a pergola, 10 raised beds with seating and between six and ten small murals with a nautical theme for its green area.

    The charity provides accommodation and workshops for those who are homeless, and recycles old furniture which is sold in the shop on the premises.

  • This is Kent: Residents celebrate £1,000 boost for diamond jubilee party

    A GROUP of residents are celebrating after securing £1,000 for a huge Diamond Jubilee party.

    People who live in the Greatness area of Sevenoaks have been given the money by Kent County Council to stage the event on the recreation ground.

    The party will be held on Sunday, June 3, from noon to 3.30pm and will include fun for young and old.

    Most activities will be free. On the programme are an interactive circus skills workshop, scramble nets, bouncy castle, fun run, gladiator duel game and a welly wanging (throwing) competition.

  • This is Kent: Folkestone's Academy FM launches new Sunday music schedule

    FOLKESTONE'S community radio station has announced a new Sunday schedule for an older audience.

    Sunday afternoons on Academy FM will now be dominated by a range of different sounds including acoustic, jazz and big band music.

    The new material will start at 3pm with an hour of music by local artists playing live in the studio, followed by Trevor Moss, who helped organise the Skabour Festival, playing a mix of acoustic jazz and world music. The Big Band Show completes the new line-up from 5pm.

    PLANS for the tenth Hythe Festival are well under way despite the economic climate, an achievement organisers say is a credit to the town.

    Committee member Mike Umbers said he was "astonished" at the generosity of sponsors, who have helped to ensure the majority of events on offer will remain free. Music, drama, displays and parades will be among the attractions at a variety of locations between Saturday, June 30, and Sunday, July 8 – and the Herald will be there too.

    Everitt – whose younger brother James also plays for the club – first joined as a 10-year-old back in 1993.

    He went through the age-groups at Invicta before breaking into the first team in 2002.
